Pioneer Motorsport is hosting a Vintage Snowmobile Show in honor of Ken Armstrong's 80th birthday.  The event is taking place November 18th from 9am to 3pm at Pioneer Motorsport.

Ken has been a huge influence on this area's snowmobiling as a very early snowmobile dealer and supporter of snowmobile clubs.

Goodbye, Marge. RIP

The SnoSurfers are sad to say goodbye to our long time secretary, friend, and community pillar Marge Rosier.  A founding member of the Sardinia Snowmobile Club in 1970, Marge served as the club's secretary from then until health issues led her to retire last year.  Marge always approached members at a personal level and was always there with lovely greetings cards for occasions happy or sad.  Our thoughts and hearts go out to Charlie, John, Todd, family and friends.   She will be missed.

Trails Ready- Bring on the Snow!

Trail Crews have been hard at work of the last couple of months prepping the trails and equipment.  Please remember that having snowmobile trails requires volunteer members who do all of the work-- if you ride please make sure you volunteer with a club to help maintain and create these awesome trails.

Some of the highlights:
  • All trails had their signs and markers put up.  (Almost every single marker and sign on our trails has to be put up and removed EVERY year)
  • New junction signs have been installed.  Note- the state has issued new junction numbers for all trails.
  • The two Pisten Bully groomers were shipped out for a complete servicing, requiring numerous new lines, fittings, and misc other services.
  • Many bridges had to be re-decked. We also obtained rubber sheeting to help protect the decking on the bridges.
  • New bridges had to be built where trails have changed.
  • Trails had to be re-routed:
    • C3A where it meets Tri-County Drifthopper trails near Chaffee had to be majorly re-routed.
    • C4 on the western end of the Forestry had to be re-routed to a location it was 30 or so years ago.
In addition to the volunteers, we had many companies donate material and equipment to help with these projects.  Thank you all!!

Updates to The Groomer Fleet

Piston Bully with Drag-- Added October 2013
The SnoSurfers will be upgrading our groomer fleet in a major way this upcoming winter.  In addition to our Thiokol groomer (Ol' Yellow) we have the following groomers in our fleet:
  1. A second used Thiokol is being prepared.  The turbo-diesel engine is strong, the hydraulic motors were rebuilt last fall, new hydraulic lines were fitted last fall,  and new tracks are being assembled.   This will be a strong running machine, and like the Ol' Yellow, features a flexible blade with widely adjustable wings.  Currently sporting an aged red color, it's undetermined what color she'll be when the snow flies. We have a mogul-master drag ready to go for this grooming machine.
  2. A used Pisten Bully groomer from Maine, with an 9' drag.  The Pisten Bully is a newer machine with a more user-friendly cab layout, and features even more power (turbo-diesel) than the Thiokols. The 8 way blade is capable of shaping the trails with ease.  The cab features a steering wheel and comfortable room for a grooming co-passenger.  This machine is in really good shape and makes an excellent addition to our fleet.  The cab layout and control accessibility should help us train new groom-masters. Thanks to Bill P. for leading the charge on this find!

The Erie County Federation of Snowmobile clubs has had a great turnout so far today at their annual Ride In at the Genesee Rd. Erie County Reforestry.. There was a steady stream of sleds and hamburgers and hotdogs for all. Kudos to the team from the Federation.
